Hi gang, Rick Ostler here from Community Joint Ventures with 10 Incredible Ways To Keep Your Sales Soaring.

10 Incredible Ways To Keep Your Sales Soaring

1. Maximize the effectiveness of your adsense ads. Don’t just use the same size banner, use a
variety to attract the greatest number of clickers. Test, Test and more testing makes you Cash.

2. Make your web site load much faster by cutting down on banner ads and start using more buttons.
Button ads are also smaller and take up less space. Very few people pat attention to banner ads now.

3. Offer free advertising space to well known and respected companies on your web site. Sometimes
people link their business credibility to yours.

4. People have been taught all their life to respect people in authority. Tell your visitors that you are
the president or CEO of your business. People like to deal with the top dawg!

5. Offer people a free telephone consultation before they order your product. When they get to know
you personally, it could convert to more sales.

6. Find a charity your target audience would likely support. Tell people on your ad copy that you will
give a percentage of the profits to that charity. It will make you feel better about business and yourself.

7. Hold a “buy the most wins contest” on your web site. Tell people each monthly winner will get a ipod, ebooks or software you managed to get at a reasonable price or better yet, free.

8. Attract visitors to your web site by offering them a free course. You could package the course on
a follow-up autoresponder and send lessons daily.

9. Interview people related to your industry and get their legal permission to convert it to an article.
Promote your web site by submitting it to ezines.

10. Follow Up. Always follow up your emails, telephone calls, first time meetings, introductions quickly so they don’t lose the interest in you and your products or services.

Community Joint Ventures - The 80/20 rule

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick here again from Community Joint Ventures. People talk about the 80/20 rule quite a bit.

20% of your customers produce 80% of your profits.
80% of your problems come from 20% of the customers.
20% of your activities produce 80% of your results.

Let’s talk about this in regard to how you’re spending your time. Since 80% of your activities only produce 20% of your results, and the other 20% of your activities are producing 80% of your results…wouldn’t you be better off concentrating only on the 20%?

Let’s say someone works 12 hour days. It’s almost unbelievable to me that people work that much, but I’ve spoken with MANY who do so. Sure I could understand and have done a 12 hour day right before a vacation or on the last day of finishing a project. But working that long every single day? That’s the surefire recipe for a breakdown, both physically and mentally.

Applying the 80/20 rule to their 12 hour days means the 80% is 9.6 hours and the 20% is 2.4 hours. If we cut out the 80% that isn’t producing very well for them, we would only have 2.4 hour days. Now there’s a schedule I like.

Something I often suggest to my coaching clients is to make an activity log for the next week. Every day, simply list all the activities for the day and how long it took you to do them. At the end of the week rate each of those activities by how well it is building your business.

You’re going to find you’re wasting way too long on certain activities.

You may find, like many of my clients these activities include:

- Reading too many blogs (Limit the number you subscribe to)
- Subscribing to Internet marketing newsletters that sell you the hot new thing (I quit all Internet marketing newsletters and suggest the same for you).
- Answering Email All Day (no more than twice per day and shoot for once per day or less)
- Surfing the Forums (I can’t think of a bigger waste of time if you’re not there for the purpose of generating traffic by participating)
- Calling Someone without a Specific Plan in mind (you can waste an hour with no results - keep it short and planned)

All of the above are activities people do to make them FEEL like they’re working instead of doing any real work. They also consume your day.

What are you personally doing that is wasting your time?
What do you do to replace the real work of your business?

Usually these are activities that consume much of your day…and don’t show any real results at the end. They are part of the 80% producing only 20% of the results.

Next ask yourself which activities really bring in the cash.

For example, for me, these cash producers include:

#1 - Writing (used for the blog, new products, and article submissions)
#2 - Copywriting (sales copy for my sites, tests, and emails)
#3 - Product Development (recording videos and doing interviews to create products)
#4 - Business Development (creating systems for others to do the work - could also be listed as the real #1 cash producer but I love the writing part the best)

Where do I waste my time?

I asked myself this question lately and had to answer I had slacked on following my own email rule (answering no more than twice per day max which I do for the coaching clients). So I am pushing myself strictly back to this.

I’ve also allowed myself to check the comments on this blog too often. So for the time being I’m turning off blog comments. For me they are part of the 80% that’s not really producing the results. This is a test though as I will be monitoring traffic and response numbers to see what the result of turning off the comments will be. While there are many regular readers to this blog, it does not receive a large amount of comments constantly. Trackbacks of course will continue to be enabled…and I will test a post or two by opening up comments on those posts only at times.

Be honest with yourself…and figure out where you waste your time. What parts of your business are the 20% producing 80% of the results? Which parts are the 80% only producing 20% of the results? What can you eliminate or outsource immediately?

Community Joint Ventures - Home Based Business

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Hi gang, Rick here at Community Joint Ventures. If you are the owner of a home business, you will find hundreds of distractions that vie for your time, energy and focus.

Common distractions include: children, family, friends, neighbors, pets, phone calls, mail, household chores, video games, television, neighborhood children, visitors, and so many more.

As an owner of a home based business, you must always remember your purpose in bringing your profession home. What was your reason for wanting to own a home business? Was your goal to work from home so that you can share in the lives of your children? Was your goal to be out from under the rule of a tyrannical boss? Was your goal to have the freedom to work when it is convenient for you? Was your goal to make tons of money working for yourself?

Here`s a few good tips that will help you stay focused on your home business:

TIP #1: Whatever your reason for going out on your own, you must keep your reason in the forefront of your mind. If you forget your reason for starting your own home business, you will not be working for yourself for long. It is far too easy to let circumstance drive your activities — and when circumstance is in the driver`s seat, you are more likely to crash and burn.

TIP #2: Remember — your own business is a real job. Some people go to work to play, some go to socialize, and others — most often those who are paid in a commission or tip environment — go to work to work and to make money. When you work for yourself, your salary is directly proportional to your productivity. Therefore, wouldn`t it make sense to stay focused on getting as much done in as short of a period as possible? Go to work to work and to make money. Leave playtime and recreation for when your workday has ended.

TIP #3: When you are dealing with family in the course of your workday, it is important to schedule your activities as much as possible. With small children, you must take time when you must, but you should also work hard to make sure you dedicate a specific number of hours to your workday. With older children, it is much easier to tell them that you will be working between the hours of x and y.

TIP #4: Don`t permit your friends and extended family to run over you. Many people get the blind idea that if one works from home then they are not actually working. Well-meaning people may try to fill your doorway to bring advice about getting a real job. Others may simply believe that if you are at home, then you are fair game for chitchat and socialization. You must stand firm. You must make certain your friends and family understands that when you are working, then you ARE working! If they wish to socialize with you, then they need to do it during the hours that are not dedicated to your home business. You are the only one who can stand up for you. Your friends and family will seldom be able to appreciate your dedication to your home business, unless you make the effort to make sure that they have the same respect for your business that you do.

TIP #5: You should allot a certain portion of your day to email and to regular mail. For example, allot one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon to handling your written communications. Unless you dedicate certain times to the handling of these communications, you will soon find yourself on the downward slope of decreased productivity.

TIP #6: When you find yourself spending too much time doing non-productive activities, then you should seriously consider finding a third-party service provider who will assist you in those non-profitable business activities. As an example, you might be in the mail-order business. You might believe that your time is best spent writing ad copy and setting up your advertising, but you find yourself spending far too much time taking care of your books to take care of your advertising in the manner that you should. In this event, it might make more sense to hire a bookkeeper to handle your financial records for you.

TIP #7: Get involved in joint ventures immediately. Nothing to lose and oh so much to gain! That is the beauty behind joint ventures. Large companies have been using joint venture marketing campaigns for years because they know how effective they are. Small businesses gain lead time, share expertise, and lower costs by forming joint ventures. Opportunities to accomplish things that would otherwise take much more money and staff time. Explore how to combine resources with other companies to gain additional business. If you want help getting started with JV’s, look no further than here. We can get you started in the right direction today.

CONCLUSION:In the end, the success of your home business is entirely and completely reliant upon you and the decisions that you make. You had your reasons for deciding to start your own home based business. You must always keep your reasons in the forefront of your mind. You must always be able to rely upon your own self and your dedication to the success of your business. Your friends and family might be annoyed that they cannot come visit upon their own whim, but when success comes to you and your business, they will better appreciate you for putting your foot down when necessary. Success is within your reach, if only you can stay focused on your goals. You must decide to reach for your goals, and then, you must have the discipline necessary to reach them.
