Community Joint Ventures - Keyword Targeting Domain Names
Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Hi gang, Rick again from Community Joint Ventures with an interesting article provided by Gary Pomerant over at
GetWebActive.com about marketing your website online with keyword targeting domain names.
Fast Track to the Top
One of the best ways to market your website online is with keyword targeting domain names. Imagine a business named ‘funtastico’, a local magic store and novelty retailer, their primary web address is ‘funtastico.ca’. Now that looks good in print media, is memorable, and is easy to associate with their business, but what do the search engines see? Probably nothing identifiable and certainly nothing worth indexing! Other than typing ‘funtastico’ in the search box, it isn’t likely to appear at the top of the results.*
Now think what someone new to the community would enter as keywords to search for magic supplies in Peterborough? Probably something like “magic supplies Peterborough” or “Peterborough novelty store”… you get the idea. What if funtastico’s website also appeared at the web address www.peterboroughmagicsupplies.ca and/or www.peterboroughnoveltystore.ca? That is a great way to ensure you get the best placement possible for your keywords no matter what your primary domain name happens to be.
When some or all of these keywords are included in the page title, in a header near the top of the page, and even included in an image tag and again somewhere in the content of the page then their site’s listing will climb dramatically against these particular keyword search results. Top this off with a few well targeted contextual back links and you’ll be seeing traffic on your site appearing as if by magic.
Why am I telling you all this? Because this is how you can start driving traffic to a website in numbers large enough to make a difference to you. Whether you are building your list or network or simply promoting a referral program you need lots of traffic to see significant results. One of the best places to get these visitors is the search engines. A search engine listing is one of the best places to get visitors to a website; however it is well known most people rarely click past the first or second page. One of the easiest ways to get your site to rank near the top of the results is to use your keywords in one or several additional web addresses that link visitors back to your primary site.
My next article will dissect another single element of a well planned SEO (Search Engine Optimization) program in less than 500 words; the following article another element, and so on. Soon you’ll understand what basic factors make up your site’s rank in Google Search results and how with a few simple regular activities you can increase your rank in the Google listings on your own.
Take care and happy surfing.

* Many things factor into your actual Google ranking, no single element acts entirely on its own to determine your rank. Google uses mathematical theory (based on computed ‘Eigenvalues’ for you mathematicians) and various weightings on each element to determine your rank. Unlike Yahoo (a manually edited directory) the rank of a specific site or page in Google is constantly subject to dynamic changes.

Who is Gary Pomerant
Network Marketing Guru! Just Kidding! Who? Not me, but during the late 90’s I was building software for a major player (and earner) in referral networking.
His name was Doug Williams and he has since passed. We established several click-thru exchanges and several other unique advertising and network building software sites. Doug had novel ideas and I would implement them for him. The sites have since been taken over by new owners and I have not been involved for many years so I won’t list them here.
I learned a lot from Doug. He was also a master of figures and taught me a lot about evaluating programs and determining the real benefit to the member that was built into the program. Two similar programs can give you wildly different returns based solely upon the structure of your downline.
Integrity is key to network marketing today. Everyone involved has seen the bad side at least once. Programs that don’t tell the whole story up-front, missing referrals, or possibly the dreaded non-payment. I recently witnessed a breakdown in a well established program where members were left unpaid (and the company was unresponsive) for several months, another instance where new owners of a company became unscrupulous and even hostile.
I will answer questions about programs if I can! I also do custom coding of internet software of all types. If you believe you have a novel idea you want to implement we can sign a non-disclosure agreement and I’ll take a look at what would be involved coding wise. I’ll even do it for your barter dollars…….Gary.
